WHAT DOES WRITER’S BLOCK FEEL LIKE?

It is more than a feeling. When you are fully blocked, it makes you truly doubt whether you had the talent or the ability to put words to paper in the first place. It is always frustrating, but sometimes, it can be downright demoralizing.

Think of it like a baseball player going through a slump. All of a sudden, the thing that makes you successful simply disappears. You try altering your approach. You take a serious look at your mechanics. Often, you resort to superstition and find yourself wearing the same piece of lucky clothing over and over, or playing a specific tune before you come up to bat.

The most horrible aspect of writer’s block is the creeping mindset that it may not pass. Every writer has experienced blocks countless times in their career before breaking through unexpectedly, when they weren’t even trying. But when you are in it, it always feels like your new normal.
